Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is a series of vessels running parallel to the circulatory system that returns intracellular and intercellular fluids back to the blood stream.

It is through the lymphatic drainage of the cells, tissues and organs that cleansing largely occurs. The proper function of the lymphatic system is vital.

A second major function of this system occurs in the lymphatic glands. Important anti-microbial activity takes place here. Swollen glands may occur wherever there are lymph glands. Common sites are the throat, under the arms, the breast, and the tops of the legs in the groin.

Herbs such as Cleavers, Echinacea, Golden Seal, Marigold and Poke Root are considered to be lymphatic cleansers and may be used as needed.

A cleansing diet is called for whenever lymphatic problems are suspected. Many herbalist suggest a diet of fruit and fruit juices. I do not. I suggest a cleansing diet of low glycemic organic vegetables and vegetable juices. NOTE: Never use an extreme diet during pregnancy.

An Herbal mixture that will aid the lymphatic system whenever there are problems is the following.

Echinacea      2 parts

Cleavers         1 part

Golden Seal   1 part

Poke Root      1 part

Take three times a day.

A combination of these herbs can be used any time it is thought that the lymphatic system needs support.
